Hurumanu 1

Hurumanu 1

In hurumanu 1 we watched a video about Aotearoa history. We had to fill in a work sheet and answer the questions that were on the work sheet and then we had to make a blog post with ten sentences on it.

In 1830 there were 7000 thousand Maori and the population went down to 8 thousand people due to Diseases and wars.

Hone Heke Cut down the flag and three people died.

Rangatira and missionaries were unhappy about what was happening in there town which was Alcohol and prostitutes.

Edward wakefield set up the New Zealand company for the treaty of waitangi.

the treaty of waitangi was neglected by being stuck under a building in wellington for years and it almost got caught on fire .

The British saw France as a threat because they colonised new Zealand.

40 rangatiri people from around the country signed the treaty.

The main settlement name in New Zealand was called Kororakea Russell.

To solve the problem in 1833 there was something set up called the united tribes of new Zealand the problem was that the Maori thought that way could own there land but the British thought that they could own everybody's land.

It was wrong both languages and it didn't mean the same.

Tino rangatiratanga means chiefly authority or self government.

  1. Ka pai Lacie. You have listed lots of interesting facts about Te Tiriti o Waitangi. I like the way that you have written these facts in your own words so that you show your understanding.
Unfortunately, the first fact doesn't make sense, and it's also not true! In the late 1830s, the Maori population had dropped from 100,000 to 70,000 to 80,000.
Like you said in another fact, 40 rangatira signed the treaty on Waitangi day, but then a further 460 chiefs signed the treaty as it travelled around Aotearoa, so in total, 500 rangatira signed Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
    Keep working hard.
    Mrs Hastie
