My next steps in writing

Today in class we had a look at our scores from our writing test and then we had to look at a rubric with next steps for our stage we were at, we had to write the next steps on our blog.

For Ideas I can I have lots of ideas that connect to the topic with some extra information ,  Or One of my ideas links to the topic and has lots of information,or  Some of my ideas show complexity ( Have extra information,detail or facts that explain my thinking).

My next steps for ideas are Make my ideas original, So the reader can connect with them, Add extra information,detail or facts that explain my writing.

For Structure I can  make most of my writing match the text type or purpose.

My next steps for structure is  to try to match all parts of my writing to the text type.

For Organisation My Ideas are organised in basic paragraphs my Ideas flow but they dont have information to support them.

For Organisation my next steps are  to Link together sentences that match what is happening in my writing, Make heading visible for the reader.

For Punctuation I have used capital letters and full stops in the correct places and I am trying to use other punctuation like commas,questions marks and exclamation marks. 

My next steps for Punctuation is to use commas to show different parts of a sentence and add punctuation to create a mood and show better detail to make the readers want to read it. 

For vocabulary I can use lots of the words that I use when I talk or I am begging to use words that give the reader detailed information.

My next steps for vocabulary Try to keep the reader interested in what I am writing.

For sentence structure I can some of my sentences tell the reader what I want them to know. Some of my sentences are long,and some of my sentences are short.

For sentence structure my next steps are to make sure I choose the right sentence to show the reader what I want them to know , 

 Snowy Day

Today in class we got given a picture to write about we had to start by looking at the top left corner and write about what it was and make sure it was descriptive, Then we wrote about what it was in the top right corner and then we had to add what we saw in the bottom part of the picture. We had to add in a character I chose to add a dog to my story. Then we had to add what our character was doing. We also had to add a problem and then how the problem got fixed.

On a nice  night  it started snowing and it was landing in the trees. The house roof and windows got covered in the snow, The snow was still landing in the trees. There is another little house behind that looks like it is completely covered with snow. The snow was setting on the ground and all threw out the trees there was lots of snow. There was a dog stuck outside in the snow it was crying and shivering it must of been extremely cold.

The dog was a golden retriever her name was Ellie. She was an extremely careful dog she never hurt anyone. She was trying to get out of the snow that just randomly fell out of the sky that she did not notice was going to happen. She was moving backwards and forwards and side to side but she could not get out at all.

The  problem is that Ellie is stuck in the snow and can get out. She has tried by moving in different directions. She started yelping and barking to try to get her owners attention but she thinks that they could be asleep. The snow was freezing her little paws she could barley feel them they were going numb from all of the coldness.

The neighbour heard the dog barking and went outside to find out what was wrong, He saw the dog stuck in the snow.   He ran across the slippery snow nearly falling over a few times when he go there he lifted Ellie out of the snow and went on knocked on the door at her house they did not answer you could hear them snoring really loud. So he decided to take the dog to his house and he had the fire lit so she layed in front of it and went to sleep when she woke up  in the morning she returned back to her house. 

 Plans for in the summer holidays

Today in class I had to make a blog post about my plans for in the holidays if we had any plans.

In the holidays I am going to go to outdoor pools, Bus to Lyttelton and then walk to Diamond Harbour. We might be going to Dunedin, I am going to go swimming in Corsair Bay, I might go to Kaikoura in January like we were going to before the trains got cancelled because of the virus. 

On Christmas day I think that we are just going to stay home set up our pool go swimming and play outside on the trampoline and in the pool.We will probably get up at 7 am and open presents and then go outside at 7.30 and go swimming and then stay up all night watching movies. 

 How I feel about moving into year 9

Today in class we had to make a blog post about how we were feeling about the end of the year and becoming a new year level.

I am excited and nervous to become a year nine, I am excited because I can make new friends from the new people who join next year and I will have different teachers for different classes. I am nervous because I dont know who will be in my class and if I am moving classes or staying in the same class.

Today in class we have been working on the weekly quiz the weekly quiz is when our teacher gives us a picture that we have to write 100 words or more about.

One day there was a school trip to the local pool there were some kids that chose to go on the hydro slide but some were to scared to after a while the other kids that were to scared to took a risk and tried it they ended up liking it and kept going on it over and over there was more people going on the hydro slides then going swimming in the pool. When it was time to leave none of the students wanted to so they were late back to school becaus eof how many students didnt listen and get out of the pool.

Today in class we had to write a 4-5 paragraph Blogpost about why it is important to learn about business and enterprise in school.

I think that in school it is good to learn about business and enterprise. Because then you know what to do with your job in the future. If you learn business and enterprise in school it can very helpful for your job and then you will know what you are doing in your job. For when you are working with money or are owning a business.

                                                                                                                 If you have  a market day or when  you are older and have a job or own a business, it can be useful so that you know what you are doing. If you need to do something with money then when you are doing the enterprise you will figure out what to you do with  the money. 

An example is if you have to share out the money with others or if you have to give change back then learning about business and enterprise can help because if you are not good with money or dont know how to count it or something like that then it can be helpful because you might learn about how to count it. It can also be good for when you are doing creating a business so that you know what you are doing. 

                         

This is why I believe that it is good to learn about Business and enterprise in school. Because it can help you when doing a business.  Business and Enterprise

Today in class we have been learning about Vocabulary words that help us when making a stall at our market day, We had to choose 5 of the vocabulary words and make a pretty DLO and then post it on our blog I chose to make mine on Canva. We are learning these because we need to know it for when we do ou market day.

Throughout the school holidays there a thing called the learning journey it is when you complete different tasks from on  task board and then post them to your blog this holidays theme is about on the move. I chose to start at the first one, so I had to create a timeline about the key transportation inventions , I decided to do it on a google slide. Here is my work I did

Method

1.Take a test tube rack with 1 boiling tube at each end and 4 test tubes

2.Half fill the boiling tube at one end with  Sodium hydroxide

3. Half fill the boiling tube at the other end with Hydrochloric acid

4.Fill each test tube with 5 drops of Universal indicator

5. Using pipettes you will add drops of acid or alkaline to the test tubes to make colours of Red,Orange,Yellow,Blue and Violet

Today in class we had a whole lot of options to do I chose to do the 100 word challenge the picture that I chose to write about is:

one day there was someone playing chess at a café and then something terribly went wrong all of the pieces fell over and then it made a huge noise, they got told off for the loud noise that disturb lots of people. SO they decided to pick it up and try again this time it went way better and it was a good game until a dog came in and gave them a fright all of the pieces fell over again and broke they got kicked out of the café and could not return that day.

Today In class we have been learning about Parihaka in our reading groups we had to do read different stories and do different tasks. I had to read 3 stories and then choose 3 activity's off a tic tac toe board that made three in a row. I chose to do the main ideas, Vocabulary and The details.

The main ideas What is the main idea of the text what is the passage mostly about?

The main ideas of the text is to tell people about Parihaka. The passage mostly sys wat happend during the time and why there was the treaty of Waitangi.

Vocabulary choose 4 words that you either dont know the meaning to or it is important to the story

1.Parihaka (a place near the Taranaki)

2.Treaty ( a piece of paper that got signed by the Maori and English) 

3.Taranaki (a small town in the North island of New Zealand)

4.Maori and Pakeha ( two different Nationalities) 

The details What are 3 details from the text that support the main idea

1.What the treaty of waitangi is a piece of paper who lots of English and Maori people signed as an agreement

2.what Parihaka is Parihaka is a small town in the Taranaki

3.Where the treaty of waitangi got signed and why it got signed it got signed in Parihaka and it got signed because the English people tried to take over the Maoris land

 Maori Language Week

Kia Ora (Hello in Maori) today in class we have been working on learning about Maori Language week. Maori language week starts on the 13th of September and ends on the 19th of September. Maori was first spoken in New Zealand We had to make a poster about it and then post it on our blog. I used Canva to make my poster:

 Movie Review Andre

Today I chose to write a movie review about Andre the seal it is a cool movie, In my movie review I had to include who the characters where, What is it about, Where can other people watch it, Who would you recommend it to?

The characters are Toni, Andre the seal and Paula and the parents. The movie is about Andre the seal, He was living in the water and then swam to shore everyday and visited Toni's house, After a while the dad decided to keep the seal in the bath in the Attic, The mum did not know about until one day and she got really scared. You can find it online if You google Andre the seal movie. I would recommend it to anyone who likes animals.

 Prototec

Today I did a Prototec I did stage 7, then I had to take a screenshot of my certificate and put it on my blog. I got 50%.

 Roman Numerals

Today I decided to give roman numerals a try, I is a little bit tricky. I had to watch a video on how to do it and how to memorize the numbers and then I used a n online website and they gave me the roman numerals and I had to figure out what number it equaled and then I made a google slide showing the Different roman numerals I Learned to do. I also learned a way to remember the numbers. Here is my google slide:

 Movie Review (Flipper the Dolphin)

Today I decided I was going to write a movie review about a movie I watched on Tuesday called flipper.

I think that flipper is an amazing movie it was my mums favorite when she was younger she had ben trying to find it for ages but I finally found it on Fmovies, I really enjoyed it. The characters are Sandy, Uncle porter, Flipper (the dolphin). Flipper came out on the 19th of September 1964. The movie was about flipper and Sandy. There were mean people who kept trying to hurt flipper so it Sandy and uncle porter went on there boat and got flipper and then set up a net so that flipper could not get back out to the main part of the ocean, They had a day all about flipper were everybody had to donate a fish before they were allowed to see flipper they had to donate a fish so that Flipper could eat. Flipper got poisoned from the mean people dropping poison into the water, So Sandy and His uncle porter put him on a hammock in the water. you can watch flipper on Fmovies that is about the only place you can view the movie. I would recommend this movie to anybody who wanted to see a good movie. I

100 Word Chalenge

today I did the 100 word challenge, this time I chose to do the video instead of writing about the picture, I had to retell the story in 100 words here my story.

One day there was a girl she was waiting at the trainstation on a extremely cold night waiting for the train to arrive when it finally arrived she got on bored and when she was walking to find her seat she accidently tripped over, When she got to her seat the train departed and then all she could see out the window were stars and the moon was extremely bright.

100 word challenge

Today I did the 100 word challenge, It is when you have a picture or video to write 100 words about there are usually two pictures to choose from every week, I chose to do this Picture:

one day there was an animal called Isla she had no idea what type of animal she was until one day she found 200 penguins and one of them kept on calling Isla so she thought maybe she is a penguin and then she found out that the penguin was her mum so after 5 years trying to find her family she finally found them and it was just a coupe of days before Christmas so she was so excited that was the best Christmas present she had ever had. She thought that she was the luckiest penguin ever.

Today I had to fill out some slides that my teacher had shared with us it is about what we have been learning in Health (Te Whare Tapa Wha) which is about the 4 pillars that make up a wharenui and then we had to post them on our blog here is my slides:

Last week we were learning about Te Whare Tapa Wha and then today we had to Make a list on your blog about 1 thing that we are doing each category to support our Wharenui. The different category's are Taha Wairua (Spiritual), Taha Hinengaro (mental and emotional), Taha Tinana (Physical) and Taha whanau (Family and social)

 Read Theory

Today I did some read Theory, Which is an online reading website you read the story and then you have to answer some questions on the side and if you get a certain amount of questions wrong you go down a level, You can score points which helps you go up a level. I had to read about Gold, I didnt get that many points on that story it was to  challenging.

 Prototec

Today I did a Prototec I did it twice to compare my answers and I thought that I did best on the second one where I got 70% I only got 65% on the first one here is my certificate for my second round I did stage six and I think that some of the questions were to hard. Prototec is a online math's website where you can choose your level and it is timed to see how long you took.

 Fractions-Tuhura

Today I had to do some fractions where we had to figure out of 2 different fractions what one was the biggest using the arrow thing because the Doc wasn't working I did it in my book and then take a picture and post it on my blog. Here is my work

 Week 6 Reading

Today I had to read a story called Checkmate and then answer some questions on my blog, Then I had to do do some vocabulary where I had to explain some words that my teacher gave me in my own words and then watch a video to learn how to play chess.

1.The first page of the story has lots of description. It almost sounds like Liam is preparing for a spots match. Why or why not do you consider chess a sport?

I dont think that chess Is considered a sport because in most sports you do is Physical education not ,Moving things around with your hands.

2.What do you think the relationship is  between Liam and Mr. Squires? How do you think they meet each other?

I think that the relationship between both of them is that they both like to play chess. I think that that met each other playing Chess.

3.How does Liam feel about rugby give an example from the text.

He did not like Rugby because it was just practice.

 History on this day

Today I did some Work on history on this day, We had to go onto a website to find out about a event that happend on todays date. Then we had to make a DLO (Digital Learning Object) I chose to use canva to make a poster about the event. I chose to research Daffodil day which started in 1990 and is to raise money for cancer society.

 Pokémon Book review

Today I read a book from the Pokémon series that my sister has the book was called Journey to the Orange Island.

I did not enjoy this book it was extremely boring and only took me 20 minute's to read. I do  not recommend this book to anyone unless they like boring story's. The book was about 3 people who were trying to make it  to Valencia Island but they did not know how to get there without it taking forever, So they went on a haunted ride called a blimp .

 Today I did a Prototec, I did stage six but the taking a way from 1000 and adding up to 1000 was to hard and I got most of them wrong but the others were easy. I Scored 72% out of 100% here is my certificate I got:

 Arts and Crafts

Today I did some arts and crafts I created a puzzle using popsicle sticks. Here is a picture of my puzzle:

Here is how to make your own puzzle:

1. Get your supplies (Popsicle sticks and pens)

2. Line them up in a row and then draw whatever you want on it

3. flip the popsicle sticks over and then write a number on each one from 1-10

Today I did a Prototec, I did level six and got 35 out of 40. I got the same score as yesterday when I did it I think that the subtracting from 1000 is a little bit to hard and then I tried to do level 5 and I scored 58 out of 60 . On  level 6 I   had to do adding up to 1000 , Subtracting from 1000,addition to 20, Times tables and division and subtracting from 20. Here is my certificate I got:

 

 Coffee Powder Art

Today I found in idea on the learning from home website were you create art out of coffee powder I tried to make a butterfly but it looked more like a dogs face.

 Cupcakes

Today I baked some chocolate cupcakes using an dairy free recipe that I find online here is the recipe.

3 cups of flour

2/3 of cup of Cocoa Powder

1 teaspoon of salt

2 cups of sugar

2 water

2/3 cup oil

1 tablespoon of vanilla essence

2 tablespoons of lemon juice

1. Mix together the dry ingredients in a large bowl

2.Mix the wet stuff in another bowl

3. Mix together both bowls

4. Cook in a preheated oven for 25-30 minute's or until a toothpick comes out clean.

 I would recommend this recipe to someone who loves baking or chocolate

Today I did history on this day so we had to go onto this website and find an interesting thing that happened in history on todays date (25 August). When we had to research facts about it  and then made a DLO about it I chose to use Canva to make a poster the facts that we wrote had to  be written in our own words , Next we had to publish it on our blog.  100 Word Challenge

Today I did a 100 word challenge it is where our teachers gives you a picture or video to write 100 words about you have 2 pictures to choose from each week. Here is the picture I am writing about today:

One day there was a girl named Mylie, she found a little stream down the road from her house she spent so much time there throwing stones into the creek, She even found a baby rabbit that was having a swim in the creek she realized that it was hurt and  had a broken leg so she took it home and cared for it until it was healed her parents didn't agree with having a bunny in the house so it had to live outside. The next day when she went back to the creek she was just about throw a stone into it when she saw a sign that said "PLEASE DO NOT THROW STONES", That ruined her day so she went home and sat in her room trying to figure out who put the sign up and why.

Today is the 7th day of New Zealand's alert level for lock down, I did some math's I had to fill out a google slide deck with a meal plane for a week I had to calculate the price all together and then post my  slides on my blog here is the slides I did:

 Clowning around

Today while I have been learning from I did some of the work from Nga Tangata (Reading), I had to read a story called Clowning around and then answer some questions on my blog about the story Then we had to do aa create task where we had to use Avatar maker to create a clown doctor. Here are the questions and my answers :

Explaining how the clowns at Starship hospital are helpful and what they do as a job.

2. List 3 ways that Dr U Who Can help people in the hospital!

If they are worried about having a surgery or something she can make them laugh and make them forget about there fears.

Play tricks on the children that are funny so that they are happier then before.

They put smiles on peoples faces.

Because it makes you happy and helps you when you  are scared or something.

 Te Whare Tapa Wha

Today is the 6th day of New Zealand's Alert level 4, So our teachers have been sending out some school work to do home. I am doing some of the work from Health , We had to watch a video off YouTube, Look at a picture from a google slide and then review a slide set about what we ae learning and then do the kahoot based on our task and share our work onto our blog as proof that we completed it. Te Whare Tapa Wha is 4 ways to Well being, Well being is how you feel and things like that. Here are the questions and my answers to the questions.

 Baking (Cinnamon Donuts)

Today while I was learning from home I chose to bake some donuts, I used an old Fashioned Butter Milk recipe I found lying around. Here is the ingredients and method of how to make the donuts.

              Ingredients

• 3 cups of plain flour
• 1 cup of sugar
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1teaspoon of cinnamon
• 3/4 cup milk
• 1/2 cup melted butter
• 3 Table spoons of Golden Syrup
• 1 Teaspoon of vanilla essence

Method

Mix all of the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl ( Flour , Sugar , Baking powder , Baking Soda and cinnamon)

In another large bowl mix together the milk , butter , golden syrup and vanilla essence add to the dry ingredients and make sure it is mixed until well combined.

Cook in preheated oven on 160° for 8 to 12 minutes or until a tooth pick comes out clean

Kate Sheppard Bingo board 

Today while I have been learning from home I Did some work about Kate Sheppard who is a New Zealand hero is on the New Zealand $10 note she is the lady who made woman be able to vote by getting over 2500 people to sign her petition and then took it to the government and they agreed with her. We had to read a story about Kate Sheppard and then choose 3 activity's that make a bingo and then post our finished work on our blog, Did you know before Kate Sheppard made woman be able to vote all the woman could do was stay home and cook and clean if they were married and had children and then got a divorce the father got to keep the children. here is the bingo board we had to choose our activities off: 

My first choice to do the Main ideas where we had to write what the main message of the text is and what the passage is mostly about.

The second one I am doing is Vocabulary, We had to pick four vocabulary words from in the story that we either didn't know the meaning of or are important the understanding of the text.

My third choice was to do the Details, I had to find out what the 3 details are that support the main idea.

Today in History

Once apon a time there was a girl named Bellah she would dream all the time but most of the time they were silly dreams, she never stopped dreaming but then one day she had a dream that she was going to get a puppy and a bunny and that came true so from then on all of the dreams she had become true. She had keeped her puppy from then right until it passed away they did so many un things together such as going for walk, swimming in rivers and playing on the beach Bellah loved her puppy and wished she would never stop dreaming which also became true.

Today in class I had to do the 100 word challenge, which is when Miss Birtch gives us a Picture to write 100 words about and post it on our blog here is the picture I am writing about

once  upon a time there was a girl she had no friends except for her pet dragon called Alfredo, Once she tripped over and then Alfredo picked her up and took her for a ride to a magical land called Dragon place, It was filled with heaps and heaps of dragons all different colors and sizes. Then she made another friend called Pete, he was a grumpy dragon he could blow fire when he was angry. Today in class we were doing a profile all about ourselves and we also learned how to make sure pictures you are using off google are copyright and you do not get told off for using someone else images. We had to post our profile on our blog and then we had a question to answer on our blog.

Why is it important you use google images with permission?

It is important because the person that took the photo created the piece of art might not  want it being used for things that you want to use them for, and you could get in trouble for not using them with permission.

Time line of Kate Sheppard

Today in class we were reading story's and watching videos about Kate Sheppard who is a New Zealand hero and is on the New Zealand $10 note, She was the person who made ladies be able to vote because men thought that ladies were just meant to stay home and cook and clean. Did you know in the olden days if you got divorced the father would have to keep the children not the Mother. We had to read a story and then answer some questions about Kate Sheppard and then make a timeline of her life and big steps to help the world ,Here is my work:

aiming for 2-3 sentences for each! 

1. Where was Kate Sheppard born?

She was born in Liverpool which is england in 1847 and then moved to Christchurch in New Zealand in 1668 and got married in 1871.

2. Why do you think Kate Sheppard was chosen to be on the $10 note? (write a paragraph)

She is on the $10 note because she is a New Zealand hero, Because she is the lady who made women be able to vote. SHe was in the Women's christian Temperance Union in New Zealand to help the poor.

3. What was Kate Sheppard fighting for, how did she achieve it? (write a paragraph)

She was trying to make women be able to vote and then she went and wrote a petition and got men to sign it. There were over 2500 people who signed it. Then it went to the prime minister or someone and they agreed with it,SHe only had 6 weeks to get people to sign it.

4. What are three actions Kate Sheppard took in her quest to allow women the right to vote?

Made a petition

Got heaps of people to sign the petition.

Took it to the parliament to get them to accept the petition.

5. What do you think Kate Sheppard would feel knowing Jacinda Ardern is our Prime Minister now? Why would she feel that way? 

I think that she would be happy because Jacinda is helping out New Zealand.

Making Ginger Beer

Ingredients and equipment for making ginger 

Equipment:

Spoons

Kettle

Bowl

Beaker

Cloth Sieve

Funnel

Plastic bottle and cap.

Materials.

For a group of 3

50ml warm water

1/2 tsp active dried yeast

1/2 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp ground ginger.

For 1 litre

3/4 cup sugar

1/2tsp cream of tartar

1L cold water

Juice of 1/2 lemon

1 tsp ginger beer bug.

Method

1.In a large bowl, Put in the sugar and cream of tartar, Then add the warm water.

2.Stir to dissolve the sugar before adding the cold water.

3.Add the ginger beer bug to the large bowl of cold water.

4.Stir well and then pour into your clean bottle

5 Label your bottle with you group names.

6.place all the bottles in the class container

7.Store in a cool dark place for one week before drinking.

8Make sure you open the bottle in the kitchen sink as it might overflow, Open the cap bit by bit to allow the air to escape.

The ginger beer must be drunk over the 6 days.

You must provide your own bottle.

We wanted to see how yeast was best activated. To do this we used 3 Conical flasks a teaspoon of yeast in each one some warm water in each one and sugar in one of the flasks ,we then put a balloon on top of each flask. We found out that the flask had the yeast and sugar inflated the balloon it showed that when yeast has sugar it activates and creates a gas called carbon dioxide gas.

 Vocabulary

Today in class we have been  learning about Kate Sheppard and then after we had to do research some words and find out what they mean and then do some different activity's

Suffrage, The  right to vote in different things.

Convince, Makes someone believe something.

Parliament, is a building that is were  the prime minister and people like that do there work.

Prohibitionist. Is a member of a a political party.

Then we had to read a story and answer some question's

1. What year did Maori men get to vote? They could vote by 1887

2.Why did most people think women should not vote?   Because they are supposed to stay at home and cook and clean.    

3.what does the phrase  "Drinking their wages" Mean? It means there spending there money.

4. How did the WTCU help the poor? They made things that could help them such as food and clothes.

5. What was the main form of protest that the women used to change the law?   That woman could now vote.

6. Why is Kate Sheppard on our $10 note Because she is a new Zealand hero.
