Time line of Kate Sheppard


Today in class we were reading story's and watching videos about Kate Sheppard who is a New Zealand hero and is on the New Zealand $10 note, She was the person who made ladies be able to vote because men thought that ladies were just meant to stay home and cook and clean. Did you know in the olden days if you got divorced the father would have to keep the children not the Mother. We had to read a story and then answer some questions about Kate Sheppard and then make a timeline of her life and big steps to help the world ,Here is my work:

Answer the following questions in full sentences,
aiming for 2-3 sentences for each! 




  1. Where was Kate Sheppard born?

She was born in Liverpool which is england in 1847 and then moved to Christchurch in New Zealand in 1668 and got married in 1871.


  1. Why do you think Kate Sheppard was chosen to be on the $10 note? (write a paragraph)





She is on the $10 note because she is a New Zealand hero, Because she is the lady who made women be able to vote. SHe was in the Women's christian Temperance Union in New Zealand to help the poor.


  1. What was Kate Sheppard fighting for, how did she achieve it? (write a paragraph)

She was trying to make women be able to vote and then she went and wrote a petition and got men to sign it. There were over 2500 people who signed it. Then it went to the prime minister or someone and they agreed with it,SHe only had 6 weeks to get people to sign it.






  1. What are three actions Kate Sheppard took in her quest to allow women the right to vote?

Made a petition

Got heaps of people to sign the petition.

Took it to the parliament to get them to accept the petition.




  1. What do you think Kate Sheppard would feel knowing Jacinda Ardern is our Prime Minister now? Why would she feel that way? 

I think that she would be happy because Jacinda is helping out New Zealand.




  1. Make a copy and fill in the  timeline of main events from Kate Sheppard’s life. 

  • Use Images With Permission (like we learned in Cybersmart) 

  • Share your final copy to your blog

  • Save in HUR1 folder

    Thanks for sharing all your Kate Sheppard work. I liked to see you challenging yourself to extend your answers for the short answer questions.

    I wonder if there was a way to reformat this so it isn't running off the page and difficult to read?

    Also, for the timeline, could you embed the Google Drawing, this would look much nicer than the desktop screenshot. Just some suggestions to make your work look as great as it can be!
